Many folks would like to see us back on the Moon and developing its resources.

January 9, 2006

Good day,

Used www.spaceref.com search facility to see what they had recorded for
articles on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Then to http://www.nasa.gov/home/index.html?skipIntro=1
for a search
http://search.nasa.gov/nasasearch/search/search.jsp?nasaInclude=LRO

Some of these links have copied below. - LRK -

INFORMATION OVERLOAD - I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT SOME OF THE LINKS AND FIND THEY HAVE LINKS TO LINKS AS WELL. MAYBE YOU JUST WANT A FEW PARAGRAPHS OF PRE-DIGESTED DATA.

At least you can tell material is being presented to the public. Analyzing
it is something else.

I think one thing that will become clear is that just saying you want to go
somewhere isn't enough. You have to plan what will be required to make the
trip and what you will take along. Then you will have to design,
manufacture, test and use, the equipment (instruments). The actual cost of
the tin you bend is a small part of the total cost. Paying for all the
pencil pushers adds up as well.

When you build one-of-a-kind, you see the total cost on its price tag. If
you buy something from the dollar store you see the price of stamping out
thousands bent tinny things.

Quite a path this road from Invention, to Innovation, to Mass Production.
Even here, building a box of tinny things that no one wants now, can be
expensive too.

Just keep saying, "BOY ARE WE EXCITED", your enthusiasm may awaken some
followers.

Let me know how I can best serve.

Thanks for looking up with me.

LUNAR RECONNAISSANCE ORBITER MEASUREMENT INVESTIGATIONS

=============================================================
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) is the first of the Robotic Lunar
Exploration (RLE) missions, planned for launch by late Fall 2008 and will
orbit the Moon nominally 1 year.
http://lunar.gsfc.nasa.gov/
=============================================================
NASA has established the following objectives for the initial robotic
elements in the Lunar Exploration Program:
+ Characterization of the Lunar radiation environment, biological impacts,
and potential mitigation by determining the global radiation environment,
investigating shielding capabilities, and validating other deep space
radiation testbeds.
+ Determination of a high resolution 3-D geodetic grid for the Moon
- Global geodetic knowledge of topography
- Detailed topographic characterization at landing site scales
+ Polar region resources assessment (and landing site safety)
- Largest unknown in present knowledge of lunar resources
+ High spatial resolution global resource assessment
- Elemental composition, Mineralogy, and Regolith characteristics
Of these four inter-related objectives, the first three are given highest
priority for the LRO Mission.

=============================================================
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission emphasizes the overall
objective of obtaining data that will facilitate returning men safely to the
Moon where testing and preparations for an eventual manned mission to Mars
will be undertaken.
